The high school Biology course introduces students to the basic principles guiding the Study of Life. Through practice and analysis, we will learn the basics of the Scientific Method and how it has helped and continues to help scientists throughout history on learning important principles of Biology.
Contents of the Biology Course
Characteristics of Life
Learn the important building blocks used to create life, including important elements, such as carbon, oxygen, and nitrogen, and macromolecules, such as carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids.
Cellular Structures
Understand the different organelles of the cell and their functions, as well as learn about important energy molecules.
Cellular Processes
Explain the processes of photosynthesis and cellular respiration, as well as diagram the cell cycle and the difference between mitosis and meiosis.
Ecology and Evolution
See how the microscopic cellular processes described in previous units relates to the ecosystem, the predator-prey cycle, and the food pyramid. Also discuss the evidence and effects of evolution.
Human Impact
Discuss how humans have changed the planet and our impact in the water, nitrogen, and phosphorus cycles.
