Description

I am a cum laude graduate of Amherst College, where I studied English and taught writing in a variety of settings; prior to college, I graduated from Harvard-Westlake School with a 4.48 GPA and scored a 34 on the ACT. I am passionate about helping others learn and would be eager to use my experience to help students navigate the college application process.

I worked for The Common, Amherst’s award-winning literary magazine, for two years as an undergraduate and for an additional year as a postgraduate fellow. Among other administrative and technical responsibilities, I worked one-on-one with authors to edit their essays and fiction for professional publication. Another highlight of this position was teaching at The Common Young Writers Program, a summer writing intensive for high school students. I worked directly with students to edit their writing on everything from major structural changes to individual line edits, paying careful attention to each individual’s strengths and weaknesses as a writer. My role also involved frequent training of new interns, which provided additional opportunities to learn how to convey new information effectively and empathize with the learner’s needs. Before working at The Common, I also tutored for Reader to Reader, Inc. and gained additional teaching and leadership experience as captain of Amherst’s club fencing team.

I am a seasoned writer and editor with extensive tutoring experience.
